What is Low Level Laser Therapy?Dermalogica TreatmentsIntense PulseD Light Therapy

low level laser therapyLow level laser therapy (LLLT) has been clinically proven as an effective treatment of several acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders, acute and chronic wounds, obesity and smoking addiction. At Muskoka Laser Clinic and Wellness Centre we use only the most advanced Low Level Laser technology to promote healing and health. When applied to the skin, Low Level Lasers produce no sensation and do not burn the skin. Because of the low absorption by human skin, Low Level Laser light can penetrate deeply into the tissues where it has a biostimulative (healing) effect. Low Level Laser Therapy promotes improved cellular repair and stimulation of the immune, lymphatic, and vascular systems. Furthermore, Low Level Laser energy that is applied to acupuncture points on the body, also known as 'laser acupuncture' has been clinically proven to substantially improve one's ability to quit smoking, lose weight and fight stress without the need for expensive and harmful medications.

Laser therapy has been used with great success in European hospitals and private clinics to increase the rate of healing for various types of wounds. As a result, it is becoming increasingly recognized in North America as an invaluable tool in treating both acute and chronic wounds.

How does Low Level Laser Therapy enhance the body's natural healing process?

The healing of a wound involves the interaction and activity of many different cell types that make up the three main stages of wound healing; inflammation, proliferation, remodeling. The first stage of healing involves the inflammatory response that is initiated by the mast cells. Secondly, macrophages are called in to clean the injured area of debris and to clear any infection that may be present, also known as the proliferation stage. Finally, the remodeling stage occurs due to fibroblast cells that work to lay down new tissue and along with collagen, form the scar.

The effects of low level laser therapy (LLLT) on the three phases of wound healing, i.e. inflammation, proliferation and remodeling, are such that acute injuries heal more rapidly and in cases of chronic wounds (venous ulcers, pressure sores and diabetic ulcers) healing can be induced. The duration of acute inflammation can be substantially reduced by LLLT, and the proliferative stage of repair during which tissue granulation and repair occurs, can be initiated much sooner. Furthermore the rate of wound reduction can be enhanced and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) increased.

Sports and Work-Related Injuries

What are Sports and Work-Related Injuries?

Sports and work-place injuries are usually due to a sudden traumatic incident, such as high velocity body contact, a fall or overuse of the body during a sporting or work activity.

Sixty-five percent of all sport injuries are categorized as sprains or strains.
Sprains are injuries to a ligament (the tissue that connects to bones). Sprains are often result from sudden twisting or blows that forces the joint out of its normal position, which in turn causes the ligament to be over-extended or torn. Common symptoms associated with sprains include pain, joint tenderness, edema (swelling), warmth and decreased mobility of the affected joint.

A strain on the other hand, is an injury to the muscle or tendon (the tissue that connects muscle to bone). It may be the result of over-extending a muscle or tendon, improper lifting ore repetitive movement of muscles or tendons. Symptoms of a strain include muscle rigidity or tenderness, swelling and spasms.
Common forms of sports and work-related injuries include:
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Shoulder injuries (i.e. rotator cuff tears)
  • Shin Splints
  • Stress Fractures
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Runners Knee (i.e. patellar femoral dysfunction)
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Thermal or Chemical burns
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Why is early intervention with LLLT important for injuries?

The trauma or repetitive mechanism of a sports or work-related injury causes the cells that make-up the soft tissue to be destroyed. These damaged cells emit chemicals that initiate a natural inflammatory response in the body. The result is erythema (redness), edema (swelling), warmth and pain to the damaged area. Continual or recurrent inflammation can pre-dispose a person to early onset of arthritis or other degenerative conditions in their joints.

Low Level Laser Therapy reduces both the short and long term risks of arthritis commonly associated with sports and work place injuries.

Our unique, client-focused treatment protocols are scientifically-proven and tailored specifically to address your individual needs.
Following a thorough consultation, a specialized treatment protocol will be designed just for you. During your treatment (s), a Laser Specialist will use a low level laser device to stimulate specific acupuncture points to help rid your body of it’s addiction to cigarettes, detoxify tissues and organs, and enhance your body’s ability to heal itself.

How laser therapy works?

Low Level Laser Therapy is a safe, non-invasive means of stabilizing the flow of energy between the body’s meridians. LLLT works by stimulating the release of endorphins, natural chemicals in the body that help to decrease stress and increase energy flow or chi.
Through the use of a low level laser, a Muskoka Laser Clinic Laser Specialist will target specific energy points related to nicotine addiction in order to stimulate endorphins to lessen your nicotine cravings. In addition to lessening withdrawal symptoms, energy points associated with certain organs will be targeted to help detoxify and heal the damage done by years of smoking.
Energy points on your face, ears and hands may be all treated during your session (s) at the clinic. Clients sometimes report a warm, pulsating and tingling sensation during treatment. Most often clients describe a feeling of calm and well-being immediately after being treated with LLLT.

How can Muskoka Laser Clinic help me lose weight? weight loss

Thank you for your interest in Muskoka Laser Clinic and Wellness Centre.  Our laser weight loss program works along the same principles as acupuncture.  We use a low level laser (also called a cold or therapeutic laser) to stimulate specific acupuncture points rather than piercing the skin with needles. Our Low Level Laser is a therapeutic laser, not a surgical laser so there is no heat or pain.  We apply the laser to various points on the body (meridian points) and ears (auricular points). This helps to stimulate your body's natural ability to lose weight healthfully.

What can I expect during my treatments?

The areas of the body that we target are the ears, arms, wrists, hands, lower legs, and feet. There is no discomfort and no need to disrobe.  We only ask that you wear loose-fitting clothing and short-sleeves so that we can access all necessary acupuncture areas.

Our comprehensive approach to weight loss will help address your individual reasons for weight gain, such as an inefficient metabolism, emotional eating, and over-active appetite. During your treatments at Muskoka Laser Clinic and Wellness Centre, acupuncture points will be stimulated to increase your metabolism, detoxify your organs, elevate your mood and suppress your appetite.

At Muskoka Laser Clinic and Wellness Centre we are committed to helping you achieve your weight loss goals. In combination with low level laser therapy, proper eating and moderate exercise, a healthier you is finally possible!

Thank you again and we look forward to hearing from you.
